When the Butterfly Home was opened in 2010, the greatest need was to care for children born with life threatening conditions, most of whom were at end of life in the orphanage. Now in 2020, things are looking very different. Provision and access to good health and social care services in China is improving all the time. Standards, skills and knowledge of health and social care professionals are also improving.
The Butterfly Homes have been a great model to demonstrate what children’s palliative care (CPC) can look like and the transition to these, as Chinese-run organisations is a huge achievement for the work BCH has done. However, the strategic aim has always been to spread the concept and significantly raise awareness of CPC throughout China.
Changes for the New Year
BCH in Hong Kong (HK) will continue and concentrate on the partnerships with government, hospitals and professional associations, to develop and support holistic models of children’s palliative care across China. You can follow the development of BCH HK on their new website, which we will share in the coming days.
Now that the Butterfly Home in Changsha has successful transitioned into Chinese management, BCH UK will be closing at the end of this month. Our sister charity, Chinakidz Australia will also be closing. If you currently donate through either of these organisations, we would love your support for the children to continue. You can continue to donate through our USA PayPal here, or you can contact us at usa@butterflyhospice.org for updated details on how to support the children or to learn how you can start a regular donation. You can also continue to donate to our holiday campaign here for the next few days.
Our USA office and partners around the world, will carry on through fundraising, awareness, adoption advocacy and consultation. The future is bright and we are enthusiastic for this next phase. We are thankful for this group of longterm volunteers who have joined forces to continue to support the children. Stay tuned for exciting changes on our website and social media pages coming soon!
