Fly high Julie

Hearts are broken in our home this week as the ayis grieve the loss of our beautiful Julie. Julie passed away earlier this week in the arms of her loving ayis. We only officially introduced Julie here during the Summer, but she spent three wonderful years in the Butterfly Home.

As with a number of our children, we always predicted Julie would have a shortened life due to her underlying complex condition but it still does not make it any easier. Her ayis are devastated as no one ever expected Julie to be gone so soon. Her death has come as a shock to our ayis and the Butterfly team. They cannot believe she has gone and the home is filled with favourite stories and memories of our precious Julie this week.

We have had the privilege to watch Julie grow over the last few years, understanding her likes and dislikes and getting to see her personality emerge. Not a day went by when she didn’t share a smile with us or we didn’t hear a giggle.

On the morning Julie passed away, her ayis and nurses bathed her, dressed her in her favourite clothes and placed her comfort toy in her arms before saying their final goodbyes. No matter how many times our staff say their ‘final goodbyes’ to a child, it never gets easier, yet they open their hearts over and over again to provide loving care to another Butterfly. Please keep her ayis in your thoughts.

Rest in peace beautiful girl, you are missed by all who loved you.
