Edmund is nearly 9 years old and has spent the last six years in the Butterfly Home. His journey with us has been a rollercoaster to say the least. His health condition has fluctuated during his time with us.
There were months when he was making great progress and fed orally but just as it looked like he might turn a corner, he would be struck down with illness and be fighting for his life again. Nothing comes easy for Edmund, yet he faces each day with bravery, courage and a smile on his face. Over the last few months Edmund’s health has stabilised and we hope he continues to make progress. The tooth fairy has visited him a few times recently as he continues to lose his baby teeth – another sign he is growing up!
Edmund’s non-verbal communication skills have significantly improved recently. Luna, the early education teacher is working hard developing his communication skills and is teaching him a form of sign language where he can use his hands to communicate. His ayis give him choices in everything they do – which toy he wants to play with, which movie he wants to watch or which story he wants.
Edmund is a sociable little boy who loves having volunteers in the home. He loves being at the centre of attention and enjoys when volunteers read stories to him. He loves smiling and his laughter is infectious!
Edmund attends regular physiotherapy lessons to strengthen his muscles. His posture is improving by spending time sitting in his personalised wheelchair. He loves going outdoors and will look towards the door to let his ayis know when he wants to go outside.
Hope for Edmund.
Edmund sleeps in a crib called ‘Hope’. We hope Edmund’s journey will continue with a life outside of the Butterfly Home and a forever family of his own. His adoption file has not been prepared yet, but if there is a family out there who may be interested in bringing Edmund home, please contact us for more information.
