Remember tiny Jenna setting off by train for Shanghai just before New Year? She travelled in the arms of her dear ayi who sacrificed family time to accompany this precious poppet on her long journey. Well, it’s high time to update on Jenna’s progress so far.
Once in Shanghai, Jenna transferred into the care of a Baobei foster family. This wonderful organization has helped many of our children. Their beautiful volunteers provide foster care, transport, meals for ayis at the hospital and constant support, while the organization enables many of our kids to have life changing surgeries.
Jenna has a number of congenital abnormalities, all of which are likely to be related to spina bifida. At the moment, her foster family are caring for her tenderly and she is clearly thriving. She’s chubby and growing fast – just as her doctors wish! They have put in a request for her to make 4kg before surgery – and she’s well over half way there. In the meantime, Baobei have scheduled her to see a physical therapist, and arranged for an orthopaedics review. We’re hopeful she will be able to start treatment for her club feet and participate in some early intervention therapies while she is waiting to reach that magical 4kg mark.
We’re so grateful to Baobei for partnering with us in this way. Thanks to them, Jenna is happy, thriving and close to a world class medical facility – so it makes perfect sense for her to stay in Shanghai until her surgery goes ahead. We’ll be here to welcome her home when her surgery is done. Until then, we are sending all our love and delighting in the chubby baby pictures we are receiving!
